New for 2024: Mandatory Active Assailant Response Training
As of August 2024, all faculty, staff and students are required to complete yearly active assailant response training. The training is offered as an online module that will take less than 10 minutes to complete. All employees and students received the training directly in their email on Aug. 19, 2024, and it must be completed by Oct. 19, 2024. Together, we keep Niner Nation safe.

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) assists in both personal and University preparedness for potential emergencies. The University has many plans in place to best prepare for a campus or local emergency.
OEM is responsible for the planning and coordination of the Institution’s emergency preparedness. Our office is currently one of the largest in the UNC System.
We manage the development of all Institutional emergency plans including:
- The campus Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) to include:
- Severe weather
- Campus evacuation
- Mass care and sheltering
- Pandemic outbreaks
- The Business Continuity Base Plan
- Departmental Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP)
In addition to developing emergency plans, OEM maintains strategic oversight of the Institution’s emergency alert system, NinerAlerts; is responsible for campus-wide emergency trainings, exercises, and after-action reports; and manages the Emergency Operations Center.
