NinerNotice: Update on Armed Robbery in Lot 25
The reported armed robbery on Saturday, Sept. 12, was deeply concerning for all of us, and we want to share an important update with our campus community.
Zyvarius Webber was charged this evening with robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony larceny of a motor vehicle and attempted felony larceny following the incident on Saturday, Sept. 12, in Lot 25. Other charges may follow. He has been in custody since Sept. 17 for unrelated incidents.
The charges resulted from collaborative investigative work between the UNC Charlotte Police Department, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. Video cameras and other security technologies on our campus were instrumental in helping investigators confirm the suspect immediately left campus following the incident and provided information that assisted law enforcement in identifying him. We are grateful for the professionalism, persistence and partnership of the officers and investigators whose work led to the arrest.
You will continue to see increased police presence and other safety technology enhancements in Lot 25 and throughout campus.
As we share this update, we also want to remind our campus community of the resources and steps available to help support personal safety and well-being.
Download the LiveSafe App
If you have not already done so, download the LiveSafe app. The app connects you directly with campus police dispatch and allows an officer or someone you choose to monitor your walk on campus. Students and employees also may request a personal escort to their vehicle by calling 704-687-2200.
Additional Safety Reminders
- Walk, jog or bike in groups and in well-lit, well-traveled areas.
- Avoid using headphones or cellphones while walking when possible. They can be distracting and may make you less aware of your surroundings.
- Instead of walking at night, use Niner Transit bus service. Route and bus GPS information is available at pats.charlotte.edu.
- Familiarize yourself with the campus’s blue light emergency phones. They offer a direct connection to campus dispatch.
- Save 704-687-2200 in your phone. This is the number you need to dial from a cell phone to reach UNC Charlotte Police. Dialing 911 from your cell phone will connect you with CMPD.
