NinerNotice: Extreme Temperatures Expected This Weekend
High temperatures and high humidity are expected in Charlotte this weekend, increasing the risk of heat-related illness for those spending time outdoors. Students, faculty, staff and visitors should take precautions and plan ahead for the heat.
What you should know:
- Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day and do not wait until you are thirsty.
- Limit prolonged outdoor activity when possible: Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, particularly during the hottest part of the day.
- Dress for the conditions: Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and use sunscreen.
- Know the signs of heat-related illness: Symptoms may include dizziness, headache, nausea, weakness, heavy sweating or confusion. Move to a cooler location and seek medical assistance if needed. Seek immediate medical attention if someone loses consciousness, becomes confused or shows other signs of heat stroke.
- Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle: Temperatures inside a vehicle can become dangerous within minutes.
Attending Saturday’s football game?
Fans attending Saturday’s opening football game to watch the 49ers take on The Citadel should prepare for extended exposure to the heat. The following measures will be in place:
- Additional hydration stations: More hydration stations will be available throughout the stadium.
- Water bottles: Fans may bring up to two unopened disposable water bottles 20 ounces or smaller or an empty refillable bottle into the stadium. Please note that the water bottles are subject to inspection.
Fans are encouraged to arrive hydrated, continue drinking water throughout the game, wear sunscreen and take breaks from the sun as needed.
