NinerNotice: University monitoring winter weather forecasts

Categories: NinerNotice

Current weather forecasts show North Carolina, including Charlotte and surrounding areas, will experience low temperatures and adverse weather this weekend. The University is monitoring the forecasts closely.

We do not expect impacts to campus until this weekend. However, the National Weather Service (NWS) may issue a Winter Storm Warning earlier than this. If that happens, an automatic NinerAlert will be sent.

What you can expect

  • An official decision on campus operating conditions will be communicated no later than noon on Friday, Jan. 23.
  • This will include a decision about Monday’s classes to allow students to travel home, if desired.
  • Should a change in operation be made, a NinerAlert will be issued with additional information.

What you should do

  • Familiarize yourself with the University’s operating conditions, and make sure your phone number is listed in Banner so you receive text NinerAlerts.
  • Monitor your local weather forecast, as models keep changing.
  • Prepare for the cold temperatures and adverse weather.
    • Power outages could occur. Make sure you have non-perishable food to eat, flashlights and batteries.
      • Please note: In the event of a condition change, the University will continue to provide food service for students. Any changes to hours and locations will be announced on the Dining Services website
  • More tips can be found on the Emergency Management website, and you can review these winter weather FAQs.

Next NinerNotice

Unless something unexpected occurs, the next communication will be sent by noon on Friday, Jan. 23. In the event of a change in campus operating conditions, the information will be sent via a NinerAlert.
