NinerNotice: Annual Lockdown and Quarterly NinerAlert System Test March 13
The annual test of the campus lockdown systems and the quarterly NinerAlert test will occur at 4 p.m., Friday, March 13, and will last approximately 10 minutes. The tests will include both main campus and the Dubois Center. All modes of sending NinerAlerts to include outdoor sirens will be tested.
The tests assess the functionality of the campus lockdown and emergency notification systems, helping the Department of Safety and Security train and prepare for emergency situations.
Please note: Though you will receive NinerAlerts, this is only a test, and the initial and “all clear” alerts will be marked clearly as test messages. In the event of an actual emergency, the test will be canceled and you will receive directions through the alert system.
What you should know:
- Exterior campus doors will be automatically locked. You will not be able to enter a building from an exterior door during this time, but you will be able to exit the building if necessary.
- Key card access will not allow you into a building. Key cards will not unlock the doors during this test.
- Interior doors will now be included in the test. Movement within a building will be impacted during the test, however you will be able to exit any rooms locked
- No action is required of you. Students, faculty, staff and visitors should continue their daily functions.
- You may notice UNC Charlotte police officers, along with other Department of Safety and Security personnel, around campus. They will be testing the lockdown functionality.
Those who have visitors or other scheduled events during this time are encouraged to share this information with their guests.
