NinerNotice: Follow-Up on Police Activity On Cameron Blvd.
Around 4:20 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16, an incident occurred during a traffic stop near Wallis Hall that resulted in a suspect fleeing the scene. Both suspects are now in custody. There is no threat to campus.
During the incident, a NinerAlert was issued with an incorrect subject line that indicated gunfire had been reported on campus. There was never any reported gunfire.
What was the incident?
A stolen vehicle from Concord was located on campus on Cameron Blvd, near Wallis Hall. UNC Charlotte Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found two male suspects and an infant inside the vehicle. One suspect was detained and one fled on foot but was subsequently arrested, both without incident. The infant is safe.
Again, there is no threat to campus from this incident.
Why was the NinerAlert incorrect?
An error occurred in the emergency alert notification system that caused the subject line to be inaccurate in the email alert. The University is investigating the issue to ensure it doesn’t happen again. We apologize for any confusion and concern this error caused.
