NinerNotice: Additional Information about Police Presence on Campus
At approximately 11:52 a.m. today, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department received calls alleging that gunfire had been heard in or near the College of Education (COED) Building. They notified the UNC Charlotte Police Department and officers from both departments responded to the scene.
There was no sound of gunfire heard by officers upon arrival, and after multiple sweeps of the area, it was determined there was no threat to campus.
CMPD and Police and Public Safety are now investigating if this was a false report.
Anyone with information is asked to call Police and Public Safety at 704-687-8300.
Please note: You may continue to see increased police presence near the COED building as police finish their investigation.

The University has support resources available any time you need them.
- For students: The Student Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services and the Center for Integrated Care provide a wide range of resources.
- CAPS will be offering the following services from 8:30am-12pm and 1pm-4pm on Friday, Feb. 2:
- same-day urgent individual appointments – These are offered in-person or via Zoom. Students can access these by coming to the Price Center or calling 704-687-0311.
- a grounding/mindfulness room in the Price Center with activities for those who not wish to engage verbally
- The Center for Integrated Care is hosting in-person or virtual drop in hours Friday, Feb, 2, from noon until 4 p.m.
- CAPS will be offering the following services from 8:30am-12pm and 1pm-4pm on Friday, Feb. 2:
- For faculty and staff: Employees can also seek support through the Employee Assistance Program and the Headspace Care app.
